This is in response to a letter from Cardinal Vaughan.
It appears that Brother Victor of Stonyhurst College has written to say that they have a young man who wishes to begin his studies and that they have told him that he must first pass the matriculation examination.
The College authorities propose that instead of taking the preliminary examination, he should take the matriculation examination.
