6th February 1893,

Application by Commander Hastings, R.N., Assistant Harbour Master, and Acting Police Magistrate, for the office of Captain Superintendent of Police, in the event of Major General Gordon retiring from the service.

Commander Hastings is a capable and energetic officer, but there are other officers in the Colony with decidedly stronger claims to the appointment if it should become vacant.

I have the honour to be,

My Lord Marquess,

Your Lordship's Most Obedient Humble Servant

William Robinson
