Force, and was employed since his retirement from the Force in September last up to the time of his death under the Public Works Department as Custodian of the Recreation Ground at the Happy Valley on a salary of $50 a month.

He has left a widow and no less than 8 children, whose ages range from 1 to 16 years. If Your Lordship sanctions the gratuity, it will be paid out of the vote in the Estimates for "Other Charitable Allowances" (page 412).

I take this opportunity of suggesting that disbursements from the Charitable Allowances vote might in future be made on the order of the Governor without obtaining the sanction of Your Lordship.
