at the Government Civil Hospital, which will become vacant on the 31st instant when Mr E.W. Lucas, whose appointment to the post was communicated in Lord Knutsford's despatch No. 232 of the 30th November 1889, will at his own request cease his connection with the Government, and to request that Your Lordship will be good enough to give directions for the selection of a suitable person to fill the post.
I enclose a copy of a letter from the Colonial Surgeon, recommending an increase in the pay of the office, and for the reasons therein stated I would recommend that the initial salary be $1440 instead of $1,200 per annum, though I cannot advise an increase in the maximum salary of the post.
