I beg to apply for the post of Assistant Apothecary in the Government Civil Hospital, Hong Kong, the particulars of which are advertised in the "Pharmaceutical Journal".
I have just reached my twenty-seventh year, and have obtained considerable and varied experience in general dispensing work (including the manufacture of Pharmacopoeial preparations) and in all kinds of analysis.
I served an apprenticeship of four years with Mr. E. C. Ashford, Chemist, Northampton, and on the expiration of my apprenticeship remained with him as assistant for the two following years.
On leaving Mr. Ashford, I entered on a course of study, extending over a year, in the School of Pharmacy of the Pharmaceutical Society, where I obtained a medal and the first certificate of Honour in Theoretical and Practical Chemistry respectively. I also passed the minor and major examinations, received a diploma as a Pharmaceutical Chemist, and was subsequently elected a member of the Society.
