In answer to your letter drawing attention to the fact that "Death certificates" are in many cases not furnished by the Convents, we beg to state that an overwhelming proportion of such deaths are those Chinese infants brought to the Convents in a moribund condition by their relatives for the professed purpose of saving trouble & funeral expenses.

Most of these infants are dying from Premature exhaustion, the symptoms of which are well understood by the Sisters.

We have instructed the latter to record symptoms of the disease upon the certificate they are quite capable of making accurate diagnoses in such cases.
