I have the honour to transmit for Your Lordship's consideration the enclosed copy of a letter from the Director of Public Works - regarding the question of granting Mr. Crook an increase of salary when he takes up the appointment which it is proposed he should hold on Mr Quill's retirement in February.
I concur in Mr. Cooper's recommendation and trust that it will meet with Your Lordship's approval.
If Your Lordship sanctions the proposed increase from February next, the effect will be only to reduce the saving on the cost of the staff of the Public Works Department by about $500 for the current year.
I have the honour to be, My Lord Marquess,
Your Lordship's Most Obedient
Humble Servant, William Robinson
