I certify that the pension which may be paid to the Applicant according to the Rules of the Colonial Service, amounts to Two thousand five hundred and twenty eight Dollars
and I base my Certificate on the following calculation :-----
Mr. J. M. A. da Silva entered the Service on the 1st January 1856 as a Temporary Clerk in the Revenue Office, was appointed permanent Clerk in the Audit Office, in April 1858 was transferred to the Reg? General Office and Clerk, and in April 1859 was promoted to 1st Clerk - on the 1st July of the same year, on the resignation of the 1st Clerk in the Audit Office he was again transferred to that Office in which he remained to the end of 1890. When the staff of the Audit Office transferred to other Departments, he was made Reference Clerk in the Col: Sec: Office on same pay & allowance, transferred to the Treasury in January 1892. It also holds the Office of Electrician and Inspector of Telegraph since September 1873. his services therefore extend over 37 years
