Reg.

Such application from W. Wise to apply in the Registrarship at Hong Kong vacant through the promotion of Mr. Ackroyd. I was called to the Bar in January 1878 after taking a law degree at Cambridge and think that the fact of my having acted as Police Magistrate, Puisne Judge in British Burmah will be some recommendation.

Registrar of Supreme Court

Accepts appointment.

Permission to postpone time for exam? in Chinese.

(Minutes.)

Inform W. Wise of his appointment to be Registrar.

Write to him about the abolition of Magistracy and let W. Wise draw the higher rate of half pay from date of appointment.

[We allowed Mr. Ackroyd the higher pay from 8th June when the Puisne Judgeship became vacant, which happened to be 10 days before he was appointed to it, but I think that was not correct. If that was a mistake, W. Ackroyd benefited more than he should have.]
