In reply to your letter of 1st inst., we beg
to enclose for the inspection of the Marquess of
Ripon the actual reports of the Engineers & Experts
referred to in our letter of 29th ulto. We also
enclose letter from Mr. F. Lane who was the Pioneer
of the bulk oil business to the United Kingdom, and
who has personally visited the Caucasus. He endorses
the opinion of Mr. Wagstaff, and we have further to
add that it is within our own knowledge that no
Tanks are roofed in the United States, or in fact
anywhere except in these installations erected by
ourselves, and we consider this desirable, but not
necessary with a view to possible loss by evaporation,
and we never at any time contemplated it as being a
source of additional safety, which in fact it could
not possibly be.
In the meantime we have to
inform you that in consequence of the enormous demand
