I am keen about a transfer, and I gather from what Mr. Hutchell has spoken to me about this really from him that he is likely to make a representation in favour of my transfer, and I hope that a representation will be made of his application, for that is a question of his transfer to another appointment, of course the consent will be a matter for the Secretary of State.

Lord Knutsford's correspondence

32 Buckingham Terrace,
Edinburgh.
22nd July 1898.

I take the opportunity of leaving in this country to speak to you on the subject of the possibility of my being transferred to another colony.

I have now served in Hong Kong for ten years, and would be glad, if opportunity occurred, to exchange it for some Colony possessing a less trying and relaxing climate, if possible, nearer England.

[To] H.B.
or Secretary of State for the Colonies.
