I am directed by the Deputy Auditor General to acknowledge the receipt of your

dated 11th December last, and its enclosure, in which it is stated that the Government of Hong Kong have adopted the lines of accounting Expenditure in regard to stores suggested in the Colonial Office Circular of 16th January 1898, and, further, it has been thought advisable to extend the scope of Store record to all materials purchased under Rules of the Works Department in connection with Roads Department.

The Comptroller and Auditor General views this extension with approval inasmuch as it enables the check upon officers responsible for the safe custody and distribution of Stores to be more effectively maintained, but the request that it has happened that the Colony has duly adopted the procedure detailed in the Circular before he has had an opportunity of making further communication upon the subject.
