which Department would also hold it for defence purposes;

but it will be necessary that the Admiralty should pay

the War Department a fair market value for the property,

in order that the War Department may not be prejudiced

by the transaction and may have the same amount of funds

at its disposal for providing Barracks elsewhere that

would accrue if the property were to be given up to the

Colonial Government to deal with under the terms of the

above mentioned Despatch of the 9th June 1890.

This concludes the transactions as to property

within the Cantonment; but it is also proposed that the

War Department shall sell, in the open market, the out-

lying property called Spring Gardens, shewn in red on

Plan B, and shall apply the proceeds to providing Barrack

accommodation elsewhere.

This property was acquired by the War Depart-

ment in 1857 by purchase of the residue of a 999 years

lease.

Finally the War Department shall surrender to

the Colony the property shewn in pink on Plan B, and

called Murray Battery, which the Colony is desirous of

acquiring as a site for Government buildings.

This property is held by the War Department as

Colonial Military land, and would be surrendered to the

Colony under the conditions of the Colonial Office

to the erection of Barracks elsewhere in the Colony
