It was subsequently decided that the
general increases of salary granted
in Hong Kong from 1st January lest
were to be subject to the condition
that the rate for arewing leave sa-
lery in this country was to be low-
ered to 4/- the dollar, and the rate
for pensions was to be lowered to
3/8 in all cases where an increase
of at least 14 per cent was greuted,
and properly speaking this rule
should apply in your case as
from
the 1st of January 1890, but by an
oversight no instruction to that ef-
fect appears to have been hitherto
given to the Crown Agents; and under
these circumstances his Lordship
will not direct that the excess pay-
ments for 1890 should be made good
by you, but the Agents have now
Kas been instructed to issue
your half salary in future at 4/-,
and also to adjust the overpayments
already made since 1st January last
by making deductions from the
next four instalments of salary pɛii
to you in this country.
