REGE 8 OCT 91
Pall Mall, S.W.
7th October 1891.
Sir,
I am directed by the Secretary of State
for War to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the
7th ultimo, and to inform you that, for convenience of Imperial Account, and also because it is very undesirable
to deal differently with the contribution of the various Colonies, he is not prepared to urge the Treasury to agree
that the contribution payable by Hong Kong should be paid at the Station at the current (Market) rate of
Exchange.
Mr Secretary Stanhope therefore concurs
in the proposal made by Lord Knutsford that a dispatch should be sent to the Officer administering the Government
at Hong Kong in the terms suggested in the second para-
graph of your letter under reply.
The Under Secretary of State
for the Colonies.
I am,
Sir,
Your obedient Servant.
