With reference to the letter addressed to you
from this Office on the 6th May last, and to your reply of
the 8th idem, I am dired ed by the Secretary of State for
War to inform you that the Colony of Hong Kong has paid what
is the equivalent to the British Exchequer of £10789-9-6 ás
the Military Contribution for the quarter ended 31st March
1891, instead of such a number of Dollars as would secure
the required credit of £10,000.

The difference of £789-9-6 like the sum of

making £3356-9-2 in all will therefore be
taken as a payment on account of the £40,000 to be paid for
the current calendar year.
