The use of Hill Street from its Eastern corner to the middle of Inland Lot No. 673, to which point it is at present open, to be secured to the Crown Lessees during the currency of their Leases.

As it is full time that this matter were definitively settled, I shall be obliged if you will let me know the views of the Government herein as early as possible.

I am,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

(Sd.) GRANVILLE SHARP.

No. 3284.

Colonial Secretary's Office,

Sir,

Hongkong, 16th December, 1890.

With reference to your letter of the 1st October last, I am directed by the Officer Administering the Government to inform you that His Excellency is advised that you have not any claim for the non-making of a road said to be shewn on the sale plan of Inland Lot No. 671, the lot in question; although this Government has always acknowledged that you have a claim for full and fair compensation in respect of the land resumed.

In 1885 Mr. PRICE, the then Surveyor General, fixed that conpensation at 40 cents per foot, which you refused although the neighbouring Lotholders accepted it; and with respect to the claim contained in your letter of the 9th February 1889, you further refused the offer of His Excellency Sir G. W. DES Vaux to refer it to a Board of Arbitration.

Under these circumstances His Excellency desires me to state that whilst admitting that you have a claim for the land resumed, and whilst anxious to meet that claim in a fair and liberal spirit, yet in presence of your refusal to submit that claim to a Board of Arbitration, His Excellency has no alternative but to leave you to take such further steps as you may be advised to do.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient Servant,

GRANVILLE SHARP, Esq.,
