To keep regular watch as required, to be responsible for the good order and condition of the Lighthouse and apparatus, dwelling houses, &c., &e, and to work the Siren Fog Signal.
They have also to work the Telegraph instrument, if unacquainted with the Morse code they will have to familiarize themselves with it, for which pur- pose facilities will be afforded them at the offices of the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company, and until passed they will have to devote the whole of their spells ashore to that end.
To obey orders of their superiors.
They should be trained Lightkeepers with not less than 5 years' service. conversant with revolving lights (but that need not be a "sine qua non"). Should have sufficient mechanical experience to enable them to meet possible emergencies, and should be in good health--a Certificate of which will be re- quired as also oue of general character.
To be between the ages of 24 and 34. Single meu or men without fa- milies.
They may be required to do duty in any other Lighthouse Stations belong- ing to the Government of Hongkong,
One Lightkeeper at $1,020 per annum. One Senior Assistant at $960 per annum.
One Junior Assistant at $900 per amaun. Revenue of the Colony.
The exchange value of the dollar is variable. The market rate of exchange is at the present time 3/2, and the Government will recognise no claim in respect of fluctuations in the value of the dollar.
For the purpose of paying salary when on leave of absence in England the dollar will be taken at 4/- and in the case of pension at 3/8.
Full pay will be drawn from the date of embarkation.
Each Lightkeeper to receive the sum of Twenty pounds (£20) by way of advance on account of salary, the repayment of which will be within 12 mouths after arrival in the Colony in equal monthly instalments.

Subject to the necessities of the service, and weather permitting, the Lightkeepers to be relieved once a fortnight, one month on the Rock and a fortnight ashore (in Victoria, Hongkong). While in Victoria to be allowed $10 cach for lodging for the fortnight.

5. Engagement, &c.
The persons accepting the appointments must bind themselves to serve for Three
years certain from the date of embarkation for the Colony. Notice of his intention to leave the service after that time will have to be given three months previously.
In case of misconduct or drunkeness the Lightkeeper will be liable to dismissal, but in any other case he will be entitled to three months' notice of discharge.
A Free second class passage out will be provided to each Lightkeeper and in the event of his resignation after three years service a Free second class passage home will also be given, but without any salary.
