We understand that after several weeks of painful exertion the signing of the petition against the Share Bill has at last been com- plated, and the petition has been sent to
the Administrator to be forwarded to Eng- land. We have already analysed the lead-
ing arguments set forth in the document and need not re-slay the slain. We feel sure that the petition will fail in its object. The need for some restriction on the scan. dalous manipulation, by unprincipled men of the stocks of public companies is being forcibly illustrated every day. The in- ability or unwillingness of the brokers to deal with the evils, out of which some of them who exercise a great influence are fattening, has been amply demonstrated; and we are sure the Home Authorities will allow a fair trial to a measure, which cannot injure legitimate business and which may, and we are persuaded will, materially check the gambling and the swindling that have been going on too long in our midat.
