Supreme Court,
Hong-Kong, 13th July ISVI.
I have the honour to acknowlege me
Your Excellency's letter of the 26th ultimo transitting
to me copies of the reports of Sir George Philippo anu
Sir James Russell on the question of the woolition of
imprisonment for ucut in this Colony.
In answer thereto Ihave the honour to
state that the opinions therein contained agai..st the abo-
lition of imprisonment for debt are still valic and that
I do not recommend any change. The number of prisoners
detained for debt this day is six.
I am of opinion that were the law of
the Colony in this respect assimilated to that of England
the number would be greater.
Coue
The Sections of the Civil Procsaure
cited by Sir James Russell in his report of the 10th
of April 1889 afford summary and sufficient relief to any
