and that as Educational Trust Funds, created by Mr. Belilios, in operation in the Colony, many Scholarships, connected with the College for Medicine, the Victoria College and St. Joseph's College have been established while 14 prizes are annually competed for by the various Schools of the Colony.
The first of these Funds was established in 1880 and reconstituted in 1883 for the purpose of creating medical and literary scholarships in connection with the local Colleges. This Fund, amounting now to $8,000, is in the hands of Official Trustees, viz, the Colonial Treasurer, the Director of Education Department and Senior Unofficial Member of Council for the time being.
The second Fund created in 1884 and reconstituted in 1888 consists of $3,000 entrusted to the Senior Queen's Counsel and the Director of the Education Department, and combines with the aim of promoting literary education also the purpose of rewarding acts of bravery in saving life. The third Fund established a few years ago, amounting to $2,000 in the hands of the above-mentioned Official Trustees and is intended to supplement the educational purposes of the first Trust with special reference to the encouragement of local training of school teachers.
