The cable Steamer would be £100 additional for each day she was employed upon the work, including the voyage to and from Singapore and Shanghai, which are the headquarters of the Company's ships.

As to the method of working the cable, it is possible that the Telephone could be employed, but little is at present known as to its behaviour on cables of that length. The new line between Paris and London and other experiments being made will enable us to speak with more certainty on the subject shortly.
The cost of Telephone apparatus would be £75.
If it is found that a Morse Telegraph installation would be preferable, the cost would be £150. The Company would be prepared to execute repairs to the cable.
