nephew of one of the leading residents, Mr. Granville Sharp, is 18 years of age, and has a good knowledge of the Chinese language which the Registrar General
considers
indispensable
in respect of the Clerkship in question.

strongly
recommended the
appointment, and I enclose
copies of certificates
as to
Mr Sutton's attainments in the Chinese language.
