G. William Des Vaux's despatch No 137 of the 5th instant, that the Military Authorities have agreed to deduct from the outstanding balance of the Colonial Defence Contribution the sum of $44,411.00 in compensation of land at Belcher's Point paid for by the Colonial Government in May 1885.

2. The deduction of this sum has been only provisionally assented to by the Military authorities; pending a reference to the Secretary of State for War as to the principles upon which such claims should be dealt with, in regard to which they have received instructions.
