for all the houses, 124 in number, and evidence has been taken separately with respect to the claims to each individual house.

With an exception relating to houses nos 114 to 124, the Commission is satisfied that the Village is now substantially the same in extent as it was at the date when the Colony was annexed, and that the Claimants—with the same exception as above—are either the descendants of proprietors who have been in possession for many generations or the assignees of the interests of such proprietors. There is perfect unanimity among the Villagers themselves as to who is at present entitled, and the Commission consequently recommends that Leases be issued to the several claimants according to the Schedule hereto annexed.

The excepted houses constitute a recent addition to the village. It appears that another village (San Chin) in the close neighbourhood of Wong Naichung but on the other side of Stanley Road, was pulled down by the order of the Surveyor General in 1888 and that some of the dispersed Villagers received Squatters' Licences for sites in Wong Naichung upon which they built the houses in question. As it is proved that San Chin was an old Village and the present Claimants were either original inhabitants of San Chin, or the assignees of the interests of San Chin people in the houses.
