Five of the rooms are now occupied by the Treasurer and his staff and the sixth is used as a night office by one of the Post Office Clerks, Mr Travers considering it indispensable that there should be an officer of the Department resident on the premises to give information of the arrival of steamers at night etc.

The Government in reality gains considerably by this arrangement offices for the Treasury could not have been rented except at a figure very much in excess of the allowance in lieu of rent-free quarters made to Mr Travers.
