On the other hand
Major Dempster, while
admitting
the
inferiority
of the rice, declared that
it was up to the sample which formed the basis of the contract.
Shortly after this
Major General Gordon
resumed his duties at the
Gaol, and at once the rice supplied by the
Contractor was
rejected as
of inferior quality and dirty. Thereupon the Contractor produced a far better quality of
rice
which has since been
regularly supplied.
