COLONIAL SECRETARY'S OFFICE,

The following Rules which have been laid down by the Secretary of State for the Colonies are communicated by Command of His Excellency the Governor for the information of the Service:-
In cases of application for extension of leave, except on the ground of ill-health or very exceptional circumstances, the application will not be complied with without a reference to the Governor. Every Officer should, therefore, decide three or four months in advance whether or not he intends to apply for an extension of leave.
In cases where it is necessary to refer to the Governor by telegraph, the applicant must refund the cost of the telegram sent and of that in reply.
