To: Drury

We have to give increased salaries? The only point that is that Mr Price was told that he would receive a permanent appointment.

Observations

Your comments are a verbatim agreement with what was said. You should adhere to this. It is not possible to deal with such questions without recollection of the inducements held out.

The officers who have been recently appointed, such as probationers, are temporary employees under a three years' agreement. If it is decided to retain their services, fresh terms will have to be agreed upon, which may include their passing into the permanent service.

The intention was to put Mr Lundee back in his former position. I do not see why Drury should be made permanent. The point referred to is that Drury was conceded to the Mendels. How many others are there who could claim the highest hindrances? Unmentioned juniors have received non-explicit intimations that their employment would be made permanent & unshakeable?

P.T.O.
