and moreover I would most respectfully inform His Excellency that I made my first appearance before the Official Assignee this morning (Mr. Ackroyd) who kindly recommended me to His Honour the Chief Justice (Sir James Russell) for further protection to the 29th of January instant.

In conclusion I would most earnestly solicit the kindest consideration of His Excellency the Governor on behalf of not only a very young family but a large one.

Looking back over a long period of my service, I have at least a very strong claim to express, I hope, the good services I have endeavoured to perform in the interests of Her Majesty's Government.

The commendation given by Mr Charles May (then Police Magistrate) in 1873 when I was a Commissioned Officer in the Police Force assisted in the rescue of 44 European Constables who were savagely attacked by a number of American Seamen at Kowloon.

2. The serious injuries I sustained in the piratical attack on a Gold-beater's shop in Wing Lok Street in 1878.

And on the 29th of January 1889 when a most murderous attempt was made at the top of St Francis Street by a number of Chinese robbers to kill an Indian Police Constable, I did not fail (though the night was dark) in the attempt to assist.
