the 6th December, upon which date I regret to

say I was served with

a summons in Original Jurisdiction

issued against me

by an officer of the Brakes and Trainage Department named John Muirkinet, together with others in Summary Jurisdiction, and the dread of exposure and inability to meet these terrible pressures completely

overcame me and compelled

me to absent

myself from duties that for

over fifteen years have been

my constant and most careful desire to carry out in honour to myself.

This charge

I cannot repudiate,

for I felt it was only

my duty and the course I could adopt with a view of placing my personal liabilities before the Government to show that I never attempted to act otherwise than straightforward and without any personal wish of advancing my

own interests, but to endeavour to recoup, if possible, the

money advanced to a

friend in whom I had placed

the most revered confidence until three months

ago.

I would most respectfully draw the attention of His Excellency

the Governor to a letter

that I addressed to the Government in
