I think it therefore proper that the pay of the post should be raised from $1440 (i.e. $120 x 12) to $1728, but I also think that in that case he should retain the $480 (as a personal allowance, which he has latterly drawn in excess of $1440 (the pay proper of his post hitherto).

This would give him $2208, instead of $1920, assigned to him by the Fr., whereas what he asks for (a rise of 20%) would be $2304.
