I have to inform Your Lordship that the Legislative Council of this Colony has voted a sum of Two thousand eight hundred and eighty dollars as a compassionate allowance for the benefit of the children of the late Colonial Treasurer and Postmaster General, Mr. Alfred Lister.

The above sum is equivalent to six months' salary of the appointments held by Mr. Lister, which is the amount Your Lordship expressed yourself ready to sanction.

I have to request that the Crown Agents may be instructed to pay the money to the guardians of Mr. Lister's children according as Your Lordship may deem fit.

I have the honour to be, My Lord, Your Lordship's Most Obedient Humble Servant,

Gwilym Davis
