I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 16th inst., forwarding me a copy of Lord Knutsford's Dispatch to Hong Kong conveying his Lordship's decision that the system of exam at Natiria College should remain in statu quo.

Belition Medal Examination 1889. In paragraph 3 of his Lordship's dispatch occurs the following sentence:

...indicatie... by the results... the college, of the competition for the Belition Medals in December 1889, hardly holds its own against the secondary schools of the colony." I have the honour to beg leave to submit for his Lordship's information a statement on the exam for Belition Prizes and Medals, which I trust will remove the dissatisfaction his Lordship entertains at the result of the last competition.

In December 1888 the subjects for exam were 1. Composition & Arithmetic 7. English 8. Latin 5. Reading 2. History 3. Geography 6. Algebra
