Sirs,
I most respectfully submit for your information, that I will be unable to proceed to Hong Kong at the expiration of my leave. Since coming home I have got married, and according to Hong Kong Police Regulations, a constable under the Rank of Sergeant is allowed house rent, so now beg leave to resign from the Hong Kong Police, waiting for your reply
Gentlemen
I remain
Your obedient Servant
James Stewart
168 Scouringburn
Dundee
by payphosen to retire, accept his resignation
Under the third rule given we could in that case demand the refund of the half pay drawn in England, but I find he has only drawn such half pay at present for the short period from 10th to 31st Aug. last.
? Accept resignation & say that as he has only drawn at present 20 days half pay he need not be called upon to refund. Inform Agents instructing them to issue no more half pay to him.
