You are probably aware from information received from other sources that at the time of the late Judge Wister's death he was in very straitened circumstances owing to the heavy calls he had to meet during the greater part of his career, and a memorandum attached to his will conveys a touching expression of his long self-denial in order that these obligations might be met.

A petition addressed to the Administrator, of which a copy has been sent to me, has been numerously signed, praying for some compassionate allowance for Judge Wister's family.

I have been requested to write to you asking for your valuable support of the petition by favourable recommendation to the Secretary of State.
