REC C.O. 22127 (REGE 14 NOV 90
A vacant appointment might be offered to him at a Salary of $960 per annum which he thinks is "the least for which a competent Clerk can be found".
The Comptroller and Auditor General would not feel himself justified in offering to so very young a man, who must necessarily be without experience, a Salary double that which is given to the Lower Division Clerks upon entering the service in this Country, and he proposes to authorise Mr. Nicolle to offer the appointment to Mr Godfrey Taverner at a Salary of $760 (subject to 3 months probation) for one year, upon the understanding that if he should prove at the end of that period to be an efficient Clerk the amount of his Salary will be reconsidered.
