You will learn from this correspondence that the securities, & other than Chinese funds held by the Bank on behalf of the Colonial Government, are not considered satisfactory, and that the Bank has now deposited with the Crown Agents, viz., securities other than those from Agents for & the Permanent Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, Gurr Enfaced paper to take the place of her securities.
I have now to instruct you to provide directions for the surrender to the Bank in Hongkong of Title Deeds, Mortgage Securities, and China Merchants Steam Navigation Company's debentures, which are at present held by the Secretary & Colonial Treasurer.
