to ack: your letter of

No 35.α Percift 9th Jan no 35 in which it is suggested

that the proposed increase to the salaries

of the postal agents at the treaty ports

should be made out

of the colonial revenue.

The argument used is that the Imperial subsidy

of £710

at the reduced rate of silver, now worth,

$4484 instead of $3408,
