directed by the Comptroller and Auditor General to acknowledge the receipt of your letter dated the fifth instant enclosing copy of a Despatch addressed to the Governor of Hong Kong relative to the Audit of the Accounts of that Colony, and enquiring whether the Comptroller and Auditor General would be willing to undertake the management and control of that Audit upon arrangements similar to those in force at the Gold Coast and Lagos.
It is added that the Secretary of State would be pleased if a local Auditor could be selected, and instructed to take up his duties at Hong Kong at the earliest possible date.
