Consider that the payments made to the Military of the one hundred and sixteen thousand pounds were made merely on the "assumptions" alluded to in paragraph 4 of such despatch, but rather on the actual amounts demanded by the Military when the requisitions were sent in for payment. In these circumstances His Excellency has addressed the Secretary of State for the Colonies in the matter, transmitting to him a copy of the letter written to the Deputy Assistant Adjutant General on the 2nd of June. His Excellency has requested the Secretary of State to inform him of his final decision in the matter by the earliest opportunity, and pending the receipt of Lord Knutsford's reply His Excellency would not feel justified in making any further payment.
