D. The figures shewn in dollars do agree with the military and in the Colonial records.

2. The requisitions for money from the Colonial Government, alluded to in the Colonial Secretary's letter of 2nd June, have been invariably made out in dollars. It is true that in a second column the corresponding amount in sterling is shown, calculated at the Treasury rate of exchange, but this is solely for the convenience of the Chief Paymaster for China, in whose books all entries are made in sterling of Exchange.

The payments made by the Colonial Government towards the Colonial Defence Contribution are in dollars, and the receipts furnished by the Paymaster to the Colonial Government are for dollars and not for amounts (3)
