The Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury have had before them your letter of the 7th Inst: enclosing a draft of the despatch which Lord Knutsford proposes to address to the Governor of Hongkong, respecting the Military Contribution of that Colony. I am to say that My Lords Concur, generally, in the terms of the Draft Despatch. But They would ask that the following words should be added to paragraph 3, viz:- "It will be observed that, in accordance with the original division of Charge, the Colony ought to repay the £9,017 spent on Submarine Mining buildings".
My Lords approve of the omission of the mission of ... paragraph 1, as the maintenance of this ... Strength of the Garrison, which ... Feder.
