BOARD OF TRADE SURVEYORS' OFFICE,
CUSTOM HOUSE ARCADE,
LIVERPOOL
14th January 1890
I beg respectfully to acknowledge the receipt of M12723/00 of the 12th inst! with reference to my appointment as Senior Marine Surveyor at Hong Kong for which I thank you. As soon as the date of my departure is fixed I will communicate with the Board thereon. I notice with surprise that half pay is to begin on the day I leave England, full pay only on my arrival at Hong Kong; this is contrary to what I anticipated, nothing having previously been said on this point, and I respectfully request, in as much as I have to bear the whole cost of my removal from this country, that the Board will be pleased to approach the Colonial Office to allow me full pay from the date of departure.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
Peebles
Assistant Secretary,
Marine Department,
Board of Trade,
London
