One thousand
eight hundred and ninety, Between The Undersigned, One of the Crown Agents for the Colonies, of Downing Street, Westminster, in the County of Middlesex, acting for and on behalf of The Government of Hong Kong (hereinafter
called the Government) of the one part and Charles Henry Gale; of 38, Scarsdale Villas, Kensington, W in the County of Middlesex
of the other part.
Whereby it is agreed by and between the parties
hereto as follows:-
1. The said Charles Henry Gale, (hereinafter called
the person engaged) shall be appointed Chief Draughtsman in the Public Works Department of the Colony of Hong Kong.

The period of service of the person engaged, shall be for Three years commencing from the date of arrival in Hong Kong, and he will be placed under the Orders of the Surveyor General of the Colony.
The Salary to be paid to the person engaged shall be at the rate of Two thousand three hundred and seventy-eight dollars ($2,378) per annum with a Chair allowance of Twenty-four dollars ($24) per month, half salary to commence from date of leaving England, and full salary and the Chair
allowance from the date of arrival in the Colony.

The Government shall have power at any time to terminate this Agreement upon giving to the person engaged three month's notice in writing or paying him a sum equal to three month's salary in lieu of such notice.
A Free first-class passage shall be provided for the person engaged to Hong Kong and on the
