Miss Eastewond and Miss Thompson were both recommended to us very strongly for the appointment of Head Nurse, and both of them appeared to be thoroughly well qualified for the post, but after seeing them I decided to select Miss Eastinond for the appointment on the ground that she was a few years older than Miss Thompson and appeared to have had somewhat more experience.
But I beg to state for the information of the Government of Hong Kong that failing Miss Eastenond I should have selected Miss Thompson for the chief post, and that if Miss Eastmond should at any time relinquish the appointment Miss Thompson would have a strong claim to be favourably considered for it. For this reason, I would recommend that Miss Thompson should on the arrival of the Nurses in Hong Kong be at once given definite status as second to the Head Nurse, and I would suggest
