Proposed Praya Reclamation.
31st March 1890.
Gentlemen,
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of
26th instant, and in reply thereto have to state that the value
of the Plant, Machinery, &c., to be provided from this side, for
use in connection with the proposed Praya Wall and Reclamation,
cannot be determined at this stage with sufficient exactness
to enable a definite Estimate to be framed in the sense desired.
I may state, however, that if the contemplated Works are carried
out departmentally, and if arrangements are made in the provi-
sion of plant and machinery for pushing them forward in a vigor-
ous manner, I estimate the cost of such plant, machinery, Steam
Hopper Barges, Steam Derrick Barges and other appliances which
may be required (assuming they are sent out from this Country,
having first been put together and tested here wherever practi-
cable) including freight and insurance, at about £60,000. - This
