"With reference to the question of adjusting the weight of paper by the heaviness of the size; we have to inform you that the quantity of sizing material in any paper can only be in proportion to the absorptive power of the fibre of which the paper is composed.

A very slightly increased weight might possibly be obtained by repeating the process of sizing, but in this case the extra size would all be on the surface and the difference in weight would, as stated above, be extremely small. This process is also so expensive that no manufacturer would think of adjusting the weight of his paper by it, as it would cost him far more than the saving he would...
