Sir,
On receipt of your letter of 14 September 1889, I made inquiries as to the items of expenditure and submit herewith a statement from the Colonial Surgeon regarding the Lock Hospital.
By this document, it appears that the annual expenditure of the Colony on the examination and treatment of prostitutes at the hospital would be approximately $5762 or £1224 6s. 0d. at the present rate of exchange.
Included in this amount appears the pay of three Inspectors of Police £450, and £5-5s. for Quarters of 108 men employed in looking after the registration of brothels.
