32. Mr. Rowntree,- To ask the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies, whether the Ordinance directed by the Secretary of State to be introduced in the Hong Kong Legislature for amending the Contagious Diseases Ordinance of 1889 has yet been passed; and, if not, what is the cause of the delay.

DE WORMS.- As the Secretary of State's instructions in regard to an amending Ordinance were only sent last January, there has not yet been time for the Ordinance to be passed and sent home, but the officer administering the government will be requested to push the matter forward as soon as possible.

Mr. S. Smith was told in reply to 5221 that the S. of state had directed an Ordinance amending the Contagious Diseases Ordinance of 1889 to be introduced.

The despatch was sent last January, hardly only sent at the beginning of the year, so that there has not yet been time for it to be passed and sent home; but I find from the Gazettes that it had not even been introduced by the end of March, and I think that in view of the delay (referred to in F8732) over the last Ordinance...
